The Empress Hotel is the icon of Victoria. For that extra special getaway I would recommend a night at this iconic property, a horse drawn carriage tour and afternoon tea. You can't get more Victorian than that! But seriously, this is a beautiful property (the rooms are a little small) but the history, design & atmosphere make up for the lack of size. Ask about the haunted stories!

I took a 5-day mini holiday for my birthday and I am so impressed with Summit Lodge and Spa!
First off, you cannot get a location better than this!
The staff was genuinely friendly and very helpful - this includes everyone from the reception desk, the housekeeping staff, the maintenance people, everyone! They all wanted to make sure that we had an enjoyable stay.
Everyone at the front desk was amazing but especially Andrea! We cannot compliment her enough!

What a beautiful get away. If you come to Vancouver Island to experience the West Coast and not some stuffy hotel room this is the place to be. It has waterfront river access and friendly West Coast welcome with gift baskets and personable service. The rooms were lovely. You can use the BBQ and the wharf. You can cook inside or outside and save on food costs. Great for families or friends or just to meet people in the outdoor areas if you want. I would love to come back with friends again.

Very spacious. Its like having a whole condo. They have a kitchen, breakfast included and an elevator too. I really like the elevator as it makes it easy to transport your stuff up to your room in one trip with the provided luggage movers. The rooms are dated looking and thats why I'm not giving five stars but if you want space and a kitchen and a great view I would recommend this place.

It was a totally decent place, everyone was really friendly. We were travelling (moving) with cats and I smuggled my kitties in and they kind of turned a blind eye. Besides that everything was clean and professional. You always know what to expect with this chain - reasonable price, clean, everything works. I'd stay here again if I had to stay in Nanaimo and just wanted a good place to sleep (as opposed to a Bed and Breakfast or something).

I give it five stars based upon what it is - a clean, safe, and most importantly, cheap place to stay downtown Vancouver. It is exactly what it purports to be. The rooms were almost funny they were so small but it had what you needed and nothing was scuzzy. Share it with a friend and it is the same price as a hostel. Everyone was friendly.

We stayed in this hotel last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have booked another week this year as well.
It is a little tired but beautiful . A real tropical feeling in the atrium rooms that overlook the pool. Restaurant food was just ok and very over priced. Snack machines were great for off hours. Pool deck could have been monitored for cleanliness nightly, and with just a quick pick up of wet towels, and garbage as well as a quick mop would have made it so much more inviting. when the Security and desk clerk are sitting with nothing to do.
But overall we loved it and would recommend it for sure.

Beautiful & worthwhile stay.. Will give 5 stars when they get with the times, add usb hubs to rooms, update tvs, lower some of their crazy prices (auto gratuity on room service) and offer dairy substitutes... Otherwise great view and service.

Best ravioli mushrooms of my life! My mouth is still watering to think about the pasta dish I had there! The rest of the people at my table enjoyed their dishes as well; especially the steak. The service is professional yet a little impersonal but as long as my food is on the table i'm not complaining! I would recommend that place for a casual date!

We eat here as locals on a regular basis. Service is average, but the food is pretty decent- great eggs Benny and super sausage. Portion sizes are average which is good if you don't want to overeat.

Not only was our new home beautifully constructed, it was completed on time and within budget. Ken and his crew were very professional and open to any suggestions or changes we, as owners, might have had, and frequently suggested changes that improved our experience resulting in a finished product the exceeded our expectations. I would personally recommend Sadler Construction to anyone with a project on the West Coast.

I stayed here with my husband for the weekend after hearing about this from a friend. The hotel is on Government street which is the best shopping/tourist location, and is walking distance from the shops, the marina, the ferries and Chinatown. The hotel itself is a historic building from the old Victorian days, and as such its a bit dated however for the price and location I def think this is a hidden jem.
The restaurant attached to it is great too - if you love organic and tasty meals.

The best aspect about this hotel is it's location. It's right in the heart of Vancouver making it easy to access the main neighborhoods and sites. The staff was extremely friendly in providing suggestions for activities and dinning.
The rooms themselves have clean designs without being too "aseptic" in their design.
The only downside was parking. It's limited and more expensive than other nearby options.
Overall it's a great place to stay in Vancouver.

I have family that comes to visit who are unable to stay with us so we usually put them up at the Travelodge. The rates are fare and the staff are always so helpful. I stayed at this hotel for months on end after our house was damaged in a fire. The staff at this location were great, from the front desk to the cleaning staff. They made us feel like we were right at home and had no problem with letting our dog and cat stay as well.
